How we Started
One evening, as we sat relaxing, we began discussing alternatives to synthetic fertilisers for our coastal farm.
Our thoughts turned to our grandparents, both well known in their communities for having some of the best vegetable gardens around.
What was their secret - Fish!!
They were both keen fisherman who made a habit of burying fish waste in their gardens. While that approach wasn't practical for our farm, it sparked an idea. Can we make a liquid fish fertiliser? After extensive research, we decided to trial fish hydrolysate as a natural alterative.
What began as a small venture quickly grew into something much bigger. Today we produce FishBru, an organic fish hydrolysate using 100% locally sourced fish waste, sustainably caught under commercial quota.

What is FishBru?
FishBru is a premium natural liquid fish fertiliser and soil biostimulant made from fish hydrolysate. Using a cold-processing method, we break down whole fish into highly available nutrients while preserving valuable organic compounds and omega-rich lipids.

How does FishBru Work?
FishBru supports the natural relationship between plants and beneficial soil fungi. These fungi extend fine thread-like structures (hyphae) into the soil, increasing the plant’s access to water and nutrients. In return, the plant supplies the fungi with sugars.
This symbiotic relationship improves nutrient efficiency, enhances soil structure, and helps retain moisture. Strong fungal networks contribute to healthier soils and enable pastures to better withstand dry conditions.

We have a lifestyle property just out of Whangarei. We had FishBru applied to our paddocks in early May 2025. By June we noticed a massive increase in Winter pasture growth. By September, we hadn't had to feed out any supplementary feed, which was a first for us. Our cattle had not lost any condition over winter, in fact, they'd packed on the pounds and had amazing shiny coats. The only issue is the neighbours cattle damaging our boundary fences, because the grass is truly greener on our side of the fence. We'll have FishBru applied again next year for sure. AM
